Frequently Asked Questions

Why is your steel guttering slightly more expensive than some other brands?

In summary, while our steel guttering may come at a slightly higher price point, it offers superior quality, durability, ease of installation, and peace of mind that you won't have to repaint or replace it in the near future. Investing in this product means investing in long-term reliability and performance, ultimately saving you money and headaches down the road. The guttering features a three-layer corrosion-resistant coating system designed to perform for 25 years without requiring repainting. It's also incredibly easy to install.

What spacing should I use for fascia brackets?

Position the fascia brackets at 915mm centres, using at least 3 brackets per gutter length. Use 2 screws on both the left and right fixing options (i.e. use 4 screws in total per bracket).

Does the gutter union come with a bead connector?

Yes. The bead connector is used to join two lengths of gutter. Insert the connector into the front roll of each gutter length. Allow for a 4mm expansion gap.

How does the union connect each gutter length?

The clasp wraps over the front roll edge of the gutter. Pull the union tight to the gutter and push the clasp down to squeeze it shut. Please note: You must fold the locking tab over and press it flush to fully secure the clasp.

How many downpipes do I need?

Each roof area will need at least one downpipe. If replacing an existing system, it is common practice to keep the existing downpipe positions. Another determining factor is the amount of drain gulleys at ground level which usually corresponds to the downpipe positions. If you are uncertain about the capacity of the gutter and number of downpipes then contact our customer service team who can help run a flow calculation for your project

The fascia overhangs the wall by 350mm, how do I fix my downpipes otherwise they won’t fall in line with the wall?

It is not uncommon to have large soffit overhangs. Standard fittings (commonly referred to as offsets or swan-necks) are available in most systems to accommodate this. For steel, it is common to use two downpipe bends to make up the offset.

What happens with ice and snow build-up during winter?

The accumulation of snow can cause problems for gutter systems. Gutters installed above the slope of the roofline are at greater risk of damage from sliding snow, while those installed lower are generally less susceptible. The type of bracket used can also play a significant role, with rise and fall brackets being more exposed. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, and if you live in an area prone to snow, it's important to take adequate measures to prevent damage by installing snow guards and making sure your installer is aware of this.

When do I need to choose cast iron?

If you have a listed building you, will need to replace the rainwater "like for like," otherwise it is often up to your conservation office whether you will need to install cast iron or whether cast aluminium can be used.
